Is my SAT score good enough?

Hi everyone,

I am an international student from South Korea, currently attending a private boarding school in the United States.
I’ve taken the SAT twice and here are my scores:

January, 2017:
English: 640, Math: 780, 1420, Essay: 8/8/8

May, 2017:
English: 730, Math: 750, 1480, Essay: 6/5/6

Superscore:
English: 730, Math: 780, 1510, Essay: 8/8/8

I am definitely applying ED to Tufts University this November.
Would my score be competitive enough for Tufts??
If not, I will have to take the August one in the United States, which will cost me extra $1000 (hotel fee, transportation, and etc.) as my school starts in September.
At this point, should I focus on writing my college essays or improving my SAT score? By the way, I have finished taking all three subject tests if that helps.

Any advice?
I’m also considering to apply Northwestern, Cornell, Princeton, UVA, U Michigan, U Chicago, Kenyon, Lehigh, Case Western, U Rochester, George Washington, Skidmore.

I am an Asian male (also international, but attend a U.S. school) who was accepted ED this year with a 730 Reading and based on what I have seen, as long as you have a 1470+ or so, you’re fine score-wise ED.

I’d say just get those essays to be strong and quirky (Tufts looks at essays more than other schools and essays can make or break your application even if you have a 4.0 1600, less so in ED but much more in RD) and some extracurriculares+ a >3.7 GPA and you’re in for ED (low reach high match). RD is a reach though, not because of your scores, but for anyone in general. One tip I’d strongly recommend (this was stressed at their admissions workshop on campus) is to put down as many extracurriculares as you can that are related to your field of study.

Your score is within the mid 50 range for these schools. Itshould be fine for Tufts. But you know the admission rates rates of most schools on your list are very low. Try to see what else you need to strengthen your application. Check the schools if you need to take any subject tests too.

what’s your major, your scores are fine, I’d focus on other parts of the application. You don’t want to take it three times, colleges will think you’re too academic focused, they want students to participate and engage in campus life, not go from class to the library, B-)

Your SAT seems fine. From what I’ve heard from my friends though is that to get into Tufts, they need to be fairly confident that you will matriculate if offered acceptance. Make sure to make it exceptionally clear in your essay.
