Is my schedule for Senior year good enough?

Hello!
Well I am not sure if my schedule looks good or not when compared to my schedule last year. I guess I'll just list my classes from junior year and this year.

11th grade
0) Jazz Ensemble
1) H Pre Calculus
2) AP English Language
3) Spanish 2
4) AP Environmental Science
5) Marching Band
6) AP US History
e) Health ***online, for one semester

12th grade
0) Jazz Ensemble
1) H US Government
2) H Statistics (planning on taking AP)
3) AP English Literature
4) Floral Occupation* required
5) Marching Band
6) H Physiology

For my senior year I planned to take 3 APs but only got one due to scheduling conflicts. I plan on applying to UCLA, UC Riverside, and some CSUs. What I am worried about is that I am only taking 1 AP this year and I took 3 last year. My advisers told me that it looks really bad to take easy classes during senior year. So I am wondering, does this look bad?

help please? I’m actually very worried D:

Is there anything you can do to change the schedule or can you just sit and worry? I’m not seeing classes to make you competitive for UCLA, like Calc, Spanish 3, or a Lab science. But UCLA admissions can be unpredictable. Since when is Floral Occupation, whatever that is, a required class? I think you are okay for the rest of your pics as long as you fulfill the a to g req’s.

We have no context for answering your queries. As BrownParent notes, your schedule would be more competitive if you were taking Calc, a laboratory science and Spanish 3, but we don’t know if your school offers these classes or possibly even more advanced options.

What were your grades during your Junior year? If you struggled with that schedule (which doesn’t appear overly taxing) having an even less rigorous schedule Senior year will be preceived as an admission that you were over your head.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how a class titled “Floral Occupation” can be required for any high school, unless it is perhaps a specialized vocational program?

@BrownParent I didn’t request that class. I have to take a year of tech art and that is the only class that isn’t full, so I can’t get out of it.

@rmldad My grades junior year were ok: A,C,A,B,B,A,A,A.

There is a really good chance that I CAN’T change these classes because of how full other classes are already. Would this schedule weigh in on their decision negatively even though I have loads of ec, volunteer hours, and average test scores?

And I forgot to add that I took some free online courses during the summer and I also look to take some classes in community college during the school year.

You’d need one more “academic” class your entire senior year so you’d have to see for one class in the Fall and one in the Spring, or one each quarter (depending on your local CC’s calendar) - I’d especially recommend a foreign language (2 years only is really low, most schools want 3 and like to see 4 or AP, but a college class would work. It’d be the class at the 3rd quarter level Spanish by the way).

@MYOS1634 I’ll see if they Spanish 3 at my local community college, I’m pretty sure they do. Thanks for the advice :)

it has to be in the context of your school…

Unless the free online courses were from an accredited college and you earned high grades, I would not list them on your applications. Online classes can easily consist of little more than watching a few hours of YouTube videos - without accreditation, adcoms are likely to assume your classes are this type of resume fluff/filler.

I don’t see how you have much choice to change things. You’re taking all AP honors, except for the required floral course. I’m assuming you really like band and jazz, and want to continue that. Besides, it looks good to do extracurricular stuff. And i’m guessing you’ve done that all through hs already. So, yeah, it’s good.

@rmldad Yeah I’m not, don’t worry. I read about that, and its a good thing I did haha. Thanks for the concern though. :)

@forgetfulme I’m just worried about how “challenging” it looks. I decided to just keep my schedule, like you said. Thank you for the feedback :)

I’m just going to keep my schedule. The positive thing about it is that I don’t have to stress over my classes. I can focus on college stuff. Thank you everyone for taking the time out of your day and giving me feedback. It’s appreciated. :)
