I've just chosen my final schedule. I'm an undecided major but I'm leaning towards Theater/Film Studies as a possibility. I don't know what career path I'd like to go into but I see myself considering Law, Med (Dental or Pharmacy), Film, Business, etc, etc. So this year (Freshman at LAC), I tried to pick courses that seemed interesting and would give me a healthly balance between athletics and a social life. So here it goes. . .

(1) Calculus I (MATH 105-E) ---> On MWF at 9:00 AM to 10:50AM

(2) Intermediate French I (FRE 201) ---> On MWRF at 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM

(3) An Introduction to Drama: Theater and Film (THEA 101-A) ---> On MW at 1:10 PM to 2:30 PM

(4) First Year Seminar: "Making Music Together" (FYS 361-A) ---> On TR at 1:10 PM to 2:30 PM

We only have 4 classes a semester though. I can add a fifth if I petition but I’ve got a lot to handle between sports, social life, and extracurricular activities.

If that’s the case, then don’t worry about it. It’s better to have a lighter semester than to take on too much. If it feels too easy, then you can always take more classes next semester.

All that is really looked at is GPA. No one pays attention to what classes you took when and the intensity of a semester. They just care you graduated and what your final GPA was.

The advice I’ve been given over the years is to take one hard class per semester. That one super difficult class that you really don’t want to take to get your prereqs or major or whatever. Do one of those each semester. No more. No less. It helps balance things out.

For a first semester of college, you don’t need difficulty. You need time to adjust. You need time to make friends and meet new people and join a club or try a sport.

Since you’re allowed four classes, I think number wise that schedule is fine. As for being too easy, if it were me that Calculus class would have me hyperventilating in a corner! So no, I don’t think its too easy. But I don’t know where your skills or talents are.
