is my SFS essay off topic? :(

The essay question is this

Briefly discuss a current global issue, indicating why you consider it important and what you suggest should be done to deal with it.

If I write about the fall of current democracy
like how the excessive amount of spendings on political campaign
the exploition of the word "freedom"
and how democracy, if not handled correctly, will lead to chaos and things like that
Is that off topic?
Is that a current global issue?

Thank you for your help!
Thanks in advance!

Doris.

My daughter wrote her essay on monocropping in Iowa (corn not being alternated with soybeans), related it to the world food supply, and got into SFS early action.

Go for it! Just make sure you can expand it to a global level. It will help to read it to someone and see if they agree it answers the topic question.

As long as you relate it to the global community it is fine. If not, you are off topic and it will be viewed very negatively. The essay on Iowa likely had a strong emphasis on its global impact.
