My brother is currently a sophomore (soon to be a junior since school is ending soon) and his only pastime is minecraft and paintball, like any other 15 year old boy. I’m trying to introduce him to college so he’ll have an incentive to try harder in school, because he hasn’t really grasped the concept of how admissions actually work. I think he thinks that just because we’re instate automatically means that he’ll get in, which obviously isn’t true.
Here’s an approximation of his stats:
Instate (dad is an alumni)
I think his gpa is somewhere around 3.4 but he’s trying to raise it to around 3.7
No SATs or ACTs yet, but I’m going to guess he’s going to be somewhere between 20-25 the first time he takes the ACT
No honors classes at all yet, but junior year he will be taking AP psych and accelerated Alg 2.
Student council is his only club, in his free time he likes to build robots and mini dirt bikes and rebuild computers and stuff. He’s also been playing hockey since he was 10.
He is looking to major in some kind of engineering. We’ve offered to bring him on my own college visits and college fairs but he’s just not interested. I just want him to be educated on all this because I don’t want him to be one of those kids who gets to application time and has no clue where they wanna go (or even worse, have no clue where he can even get accepted to). If anyone has any tips on how to get him interested and motivated to work hard for college, any advice is greatly appreciated!
