So I took the test today (9/10/16) and I think I did REALLY well. I’ve taken the ACT a couple times with scores around 25-27 (I focused on school more, and didn’t study as well). I took this test VERY seriously because I’m applying to colleges this fall. I bought a bunch of books and did so much practice over the summer.
Last ACT Score: 27
English - 29
Math - 23
Reading - 31
Science - 25
This test I think I’m going to get 33+. So am I at risk of getting flagged?
There is not an automatic flag cutoff, but 6-7 points will often get a more thorough examination. In most cases, this will just mean a delay in scoring. In the extreme case – usually because they have a suspicion of cheating – they would require you to take the ACT again to “confirm” your higher score. That’s really jumping ahead, though. You think you did great. Enjoy.
There is no way to know whether you will get flagged or not. Obviously a slow rise over two or three tests is less likely to get flagged than a sudden jump. I do think a big jump in math and science is less likely to get flagged than jumps in English and Reading, simply because math and science scores are easier to raise through study and preparation.
FWIW, my daughter and a friend took the ACT Saturday, and both described the science section (and perhaps the whole test) as “easier” than in the past, as did a couple of girls who we spoke to in a restaurant. So the curve may be a bit brutal this time around.
@EarlVanDorn I’m just really worried because there are a lot of threads on CC where people were flagged for 6 point jumps and people who never got flagged, even though they jumped 10-12 points.
I took the ACT yesterday. I really think the English, reading, and science were all easier than the test before. I would say that the math was much harder for me than the last time and that is my strength on the test. Honestly, I got a 26 the last time and I wouldn’t be surprised if I got a 6 point jump.
@JudgeHolden Yeah that happens to me too. But I felt this test to be easier than previous ones. So I just have to wait I guess.
@montanagrizz I felt the same way. Although math is my weakest, I did a lot of math prep over the summer and fell pretty confident of at least a 32 in math.
