Is National Student Clearinghouse the database used?

Is National Student Clearinghouse the only database used by the UCs and other universities to verify whether a student has attended any colleges other than the one stated on the college application?

I have a question. This could have been asked before, but if I’ve registered at another community college but never enrolled in or taken any actual classes there, did I still need to report it on my application? I applied for admission to a certain CC but never took a class there. So I felt it a little redundant to list it on my application.

I think you should have mentioned it. If you didn’t, don’t worry too much, just email the UC application service and let them know. But make it very clear that you didn’t take any classes there whatsoever.

Oh, I see. The only reason I didn’t mention it was because the application asked me to report ALL courses I’ve taken—but since I didn’t take any classes at this community college, there was no class for me to list. I guess it would be a problem if I had taken a class there (or even enrolled in a class and later dropped it) but since I never even registered for a class, I don’t know. Oh well!

It’s fine buddy, just email them really quick and tell them, it shouldn’t be a problem whether you tell them or not it just makes you look super on top if you let them know anyway.

Sounds great!

Here is the message I am going to send them. I sent the message to the ‘datachng’ e-mail address they’ve listed.

"To Whom It May Concern:

I am a student at Los Angeles City College (LACC), and have taken all of my attempted and completed college courses thus far at this institution. In the Winter of 2010, I applied for admission to Glendale Community College (GCC), thinking that I was going to be taking a class there during the winter intersession. However, upon finalizing my course schedule for the LACC Spring 2010 term, I ended up not having to take a class at GCC. Even though I applied for admission to GCC and may appear in their student database, I have never enrolled in, attempted, nor taken any classes at their institution.

I just wanted to bring this to your attention. Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards"

I think I’m being paranoid, but does this affect my chances of admission? I hope it isn’t a problem… I just didn’t think of listing GCC because I never even signed up for any classes there.

I think you might be overly paranoid.

I don’t think you needed to list it if you never took a class there. On the UC application,
it asks for Dates of Attendance, and you never attended it [took a class].

I don’t think it’s a big deal unless you omit a class.

Thanks, Rpicton. Yep, hopefully it’ll be fine. I just took the extra step of notifying them, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Thx!

Wow someone else that goes to LACC haha . I wouldn’t bother with that email.

If you didn’t take a class at GCC it won’t matter anyways and if they had questions about your list of schools they would email you

Oops, I already sent the e-mail. Oh well, better safe than sorry! They probably won’t care either way.

You go to LACC as well, Peterr86?

From what I’ve read on the National Student Clearinghouse website, they don’t check to see if people have gone to other schools. They check if they are going to the schools they claim they are going to.

Is there anywhere on the site that somehow has found different information, like somewhere to query what schools the person has been to without specifying the school?

Ya i actually check this forum during co sci 141 <_< when i’m bored

Oh, I see. What a coincidence that you go there, too.
