Is no one going to say it?

You didn’t mention the defensive parents here who serve to spread their “precious knowledge” but end up getting combative and argue with 15-17 year olds.

I guess most of what you said is true, but there is a certain good that comes out of chance threads, they calm people’s nerves…I’m an international who doesn’t go to an international school, so I don’t have a lot of information about the whole process. I posted chance threads when I did not know much about applying to colleges. For me, it helps to see what students in America think and know about things. I suppose the chance board is not meant to be a place to flaunt your archievements but a place to exchange information that other might not know (that is also the point of cc I guess).

I haven’t gone to the chance board in a while, but when I was back there I noticed how nice and polite everyone was (as opposed to some other chance threads in forums I’ve seen) and I like that atmosphere. So I do not think negatively of the chance board, or of the people there, I mean, we’re all just teens trying to go to college, we should at least try to get along. If someone’s post offends you, you don’t have to reply. But it’s not like we have to oppose the whole idea of chancing.

I think it’s bad when people with uber high stats “brag” with chances, but I agree with mistyblue that chance threads can calm people who are borderline.

No one going to say it? There’s been a post a week like this every on the main boards for years. They finally created a separate Chances board so we don’t have to wade through them in Admissions and College Search. But they still show up in school forums, parents forums…

No need to mock, the chance topics issue was one of several, and are, regardless of where they wind up, a symptom of a greater problem in my opinion. They may be calming sometimes, but sometimes they are not, and the number of times they’ve changed the outcome of someone’s college results is 0 (unless they come here as starting Juniors or something of course, keep in mind I’m talking about people who have applied).

I just think that if you’ve come here to constructively comfort yourself on the college process it probably won’t be the right place, that’s all.

It’s not really a ‘Brown’ topic, per se. No need to be defensive.

Everyone come to HSL! Ditch chances!!!

My personal favorite is Mapleleafs26’s “Chance Me to Get Rejected by Brown” thread
