Hey Guys,
I was wondering how the student body at NYU Stern and NYU in general is? I come from a regular middle class family (~170k income). Is NYU full of rich kids and students from households with income <250k are a minority? I feel I'd be alienated for not owning a beach house in the Hamptons, BMWs etc. Main reason I'm really considering UC Berkeley which has kids I could better relate to. If this isn't true, definitely choosing NYU because I love NYC :).
Thank you!

There are going to be a bunch of rich kids but it shouldn’t be a big culture shock for you because you are upper middle. It might be a bigger culture shock for someone from South Central or Lodi. There will be plenty of middle class kids and there will be plenty of kids getting some level of aid. I do know a CA girl who felt it was overrun with stereotype ppl but that was just her freshman year and the stereotype was ppl from your demographic.

im going to stern next yr. im middle class.

haha yeah that is true, thanks for the responses Parent & rodrigo9. Out of curiosity, what proportion of people are taking out significant loans at NYU Stern to finance their education or have scholarships to NYU? Are most people primarily trust fund kids with parents who pay for it? (Got a big merit scholarship, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to afford Stern).

Is NYU Stern full of rich kids?

Eventually

haha yeah it’s definitely a school great at helping people become successful!

Since NYU does not meet full financial need, the college does have more full pay students than some other colleges.

Ya it is lol

yeah makes sense bluebayou. How does NYU compare in this aspect and social life overall to the Ivies. Cornell and Penn seem to have good atmospheres. And how does stern compare to Cornell and Berkeley in its finance program? Thank you!
