In the past I have read that students applying for MT at NYU could be accepted into other acting studios and not MT if the adjudicators felt the applicant was a strong actor but lacked singing and dancing. The way the Tisch website reads now suggests that a student can only be considered for a specific area---EITHER acting OR MT.

Is this a change in how the auditions work this year? Does anyone know if this is a policy change or will talented actors still be considered for other studios if they get rejected from musical theater?

I am trying to decide which to audition for and would really appreciate any and all factual information about this. I will try again to call the school but at this time of year that is difficult. Thanks, millie

I am not affiliated with NYU at all, but was curious after reading your question and looked on their website… it says (“When you request your artistic review appointment, you will be asked to select one of the following areas: Acting, Music Theatre, Directing or Technical Production and Design.” – [Drama Department Artistic Review: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU](http://drama.tisch.nyu.edu/object/dr_artistic_review.html))

However, if you click on the the links it eventually clearly states that a candidate who completes a Musical Theatre Artistic Review will be asked if they would like to be considered for non-MT studios.

From the website:

"Please only attend a Music Theatre artistic review if you would like to be considered first for the music theatre arm of the New Studio on Broadway.

Applicants are interviewed immediately following the audition portion of the artistic review. In the interview, candidates will be asked if they would like to be considered for one of the acting studios in addition to the music theatre program at the New Studio on Broadway, given the relatively small number of places for music theatre students at that studio. The answer will not affect the candidate’s eligibility for the New Studio on Broadway and the studio placement decision remains with the Drama Department."
Thank you katmt, you are so kind! I appreciate your help, I have followed so many links to so many dead ends on so many websites that I don’t trust my own ability to even fill out a form anymore. See you at the JMU auditions :)
