My son was only able to go to student orientation during the one day session in September. He goes Thursday, we can only go Friday. Is it worth taking an extra day off of work to go to the orientation? This is our 4th college student, 3rd UC student, only UCSD student. I am afraid we will miss out on something important but really? One day? Feedback from anyone who has attended UCSD's one day would be aappreciated.

With your experience already with colleges and the UCs I don’t think it’d be worth going way out of your way for it but it depends also on whether your S would like you to attend and if so, whether you want to be there due to that. From what I remember the student/parents are separated for most of the sessions. Maybe the agenda can provide more insight.

yea that’s kinda what I was thinking. He is signed up for early move in but that means he moves in on Wednesday. We might just move him in and go home. I’m trying to get him moved to the Friday orientation then we’d not have so much time to kill and the parent orientation would make sense.

Does it matter to him whether or not you go to orientation? As the fourth kid, it’s “been there, done that” for you. How important is it to him? Or is moving in early and getting a jump on things more important to him?
