Is online school the best idea?

I'm thinking about taking a semester off and doing the online high-school program offered by my state for family reasons. I will be taking all AP classes (except English and math because I'm going to be a sophomore) and they offer clubs like MUN and FBLA. Is this a good choice? I've taken a math class online and found it much easier to grasp the concepts.

It’s up to you, just remember when you do an online schooling, you will miss out on the social scene of your current school. But some people are fine with that.

bump

I’ve taken multiple online classes through the county (Hon Economics, Health&PE 10, Hon Physics) and multiple through the state (Arabic 1, AP Psychology), and will take another through the state next year (AP Calculus BC). Typically, I’ve only taken classes online if they weren’t offered at my school or if I needed to get a required course out of the way in the summer.
I don’t think online classes are ideal. In addition to the work that the teacher puts up, you’ll probably have to do a lot of extra work on your own (watching Youtube videos, briefly researching topics) in order to fill in the gaps. Online classes, in my experience, aren’t structured very well and while the teachers are wonderful aids, they don’t actually teach. I recognize that you are considering doing online school for family reasons, but if you do feel that your situation improves and you can attend a brick and mortar school, then I recommend never taking any online classes haha.

If the choice is between online school or no school at all, then online school wins by a mile.

I think it looks good to colleges – it shows that you have a degree of maturity and persistence, that you are self-motivated, etc. If you take an AP course online, then your actual AP score will let colleges know that it was just as rigorous as a ‘real course’. It’s pretty common now, and people do it for a variety of reasons - including having the flexibility to participate in sports or music at an elite level, wanting a greater challenge, etc.
