Is OOS, 3.7 GPA 2340 SAT worth applying to Berkeley OOS?

My parents have been egging me on to apply ED here and I don't know if I should let it grow on me because a) I have no idea how to calculate UC GPA to compare myself with competition and b) I'm mixed on Cali in general. Well, okay, my dad has done so since his niece wants to go to Berkeley - a lot - but my mom is afraid of earthquakes so she's against it.

But let's assume a miracle happens and I'd even kill Lady Gaga to go to Berkeley. Would my stats, without looking at any other aspect of my app, be worth risking my ED for? OOS.

And FYI, I'm not sure if I like the UCs enough as it as, but this topic is for me to determine if I should put them somewhere in the back of my head.

While we're at it, how about USC or UCLA as well?

Berkeley has no ED. Everyone applies in November, you should too.

I know I’m being really unhelpful here, but… UCs don’t have ED or EA…

AWKWARD MOMENT

;-;

Well, they’ll still egg me on to shell out app money here. Let’s assume I can afford full OOS tuition - which I’m not quite sure yet if possible - and I know that money is needed in Cali. If I can pay full price would it partially make up for my average GPA (with no offense to those who commend 3.7ers)?

Somewhere in here, you should be able to calculus UC GPA (basically the GPA on a 4 point scale in the a through g subjects taken in 10th or 11th grade, with +1 for honors and AP courses in which you got a C or better).

And look here for statistics on applicants and admits to the various UC campuses:

Since Berkeley will probably not be familiar with your school’s curriculum, they will probably judge you more based on your standardized test scores. Your SAT I is pretty high, so I think you have a good chance of getting in. It’s definitely worth applying.

hahahahahahahahahahaha

If you write good essays, you have a fairly strong chance.

Ucla and uc berkeley seemed like a huge joke to get accepted to this year from oos. You’ll be fine for next year.

Your SAT score is amazing, well above average accepted OOS. I’m a hopeful MD applicant with a 33 ACT. My counselor advised me not to retake it since I don’t think I can edge out a 35, so I think I’ll go with her opinion on that one.

Alright, I checked on Naviance and in the last four years 3/6 people in my school got in with a GPA average of about 3.8 (I’d assume, since the GPA system is different). Since six people applied to Berkeley already would UCB compare me with the successes of the previous applicants?

I would apply if I were you. Berkeley has been really trying to accommodate as many OOS as they can. There’s no stats available but I would reckon the GPA isn’t that high.

Getting into Berkeley is no problem compared to surviving at Berkeley. You really shouldn’t worried about the admission itself but should think about what you wanna study. Or better yet, consider Berkeley (public, ultra-competitive, etc.) is the right school for you. Did your parents also graduated from one of the UC’s?
