Is Organic Chem necessary for transfer?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had difficulty transferring to UC’s or any university without taking organic chemistry.
I find this class incredibly difficult and I don’t want to bring my GPA down even more.

I just applied for fall transfer to UCs and a few private schools.

A little background:
GPA is a 2.75 …I know I’m a disgrace
I finished general biology, general chemistry and all my GE’s.
I will be enrolled in my first calculus class next quarter.

I took organic chemistry last quarter and I found that I could not grasp the content fully because of a number of factors.
Ochem1A isn’t offered next quarter due to limited lab space.
I was wondering if it was possible to take ochem at my 4-year institution. Has anyone run into trouble from not taking it before transfer?

I’m guessing you’re going to major in a field of health sciences or chemistry?
Physics/math/computer science or non-STEM majors don’t need it at all.

O-Chem is upper division at UCSD and they tell you to take it last because of that. I think the transfer people told me last year that if you don’t get a B or better than they won’t accept it either, so if you’re not getting a B than no point in taking it. Talk to your transfer counselor before dropping it though.
