I plan on transferring from a community college. The transfer acceptance rate is 84%/100% which is ridiculously high and they will actually accept a 1.7 (D+) in a class.

If it is really that easy to get in, then I will be sure to apply here.

I have had a few uncles go to Ohio State and they loved it, some of my friends parents also attended and they love it as well. Thus far, pretty much every OSU alumnus I’ve talked to loved their Undergrad experience at Ohio State. I want to go to med school and they keep telling me “Go to OSU!”

But why though?

I have heard good things about OSU. I am not worried about not getting in because if the above stats are correct, OSU must be a joke to get into transferring. I’ve never seen a higher acceptance rate except for maybe West Virginia University. 89-90%.

Is Columbus a nice city. Is it even a city? Is it big? How big? Does it offer a lot? I live by NYC and do not expect a manhattan (NYC is the largest in the country and one of the largest in the world).

All I really want is a decent sized city. Nice bars, restaurants, SOME THING TO DO.

My D will be attending OSU in the fall as a freshman. We live 1.5 hours north of NYC and fell in love with the school when we visited last July. She visited many of the Big 10s and OSU was her top choice.

What drew her to OSU, besides academics, etc., was the campus. OSU has a real traditional college campus feel. She liked the fact that it has a beautiful Oval and a mixture of old architecure and new. She also likes the fact that right off campus is an area with lots of shops, places to eat, etc. You really get the both of best worlds at OSU, Columbus. Many of the schools she visited were in the middle of corn fields (though pretty, not much happening off campus). The city of Columbus is just a stone’s throw from campus and seems to offer happenings (museums, etc.) when you want to get off campus for a while. I believe the city’s bus system is free for students.

I highly recommend visiting the school. The flight out of LaGuardia is only 1.5 hours.
Hope this helps.

We are within a 2 hour drive of Columbus and in addition to visiting campus, I have been to Columbus for many other events both downtown and suburban. At our campus visit, I thought they did a great job of not hiding how big they were (actually a video where they asked students what they thought of when you hear “Ohio State”, and they said "Huge, big, ginormous, etc) but then progressed to telling you how you could make it a comfortable size for you…and did a good job of convincing! The arena district of downtown, near Nationwide Arena (where the NHL Bluejackets play) is a vibrant area of downtown and Easton and Dublin areas on the outskirts of town are both great suburbs. For my dd, it’s just different enough from where we live to be appealing and not being too far away. As the state capital, it offers great historical attractions in addition to COSI museum downtown. Our paper recently featured an article on their great German historical district.

If you are going to check out the are definately visit the short north (high street south of campus) which has cute shops and galleries and go downtown to the arena district (MLH team and AA baseball team with brand new stadium). The campus is HUGE, but you probably won’t spend time in most of them. The Oval is really pretty and the Wexner Center is amazing!
