Is Oxford College Legit?

I'm so sorry. No longer have that application as didn't apply. It was a printed version from the school. Can't remember if we got it in the mail or if we picked it up when we visited. If we picked it up when we visited, it may have been 2006-2007 version. If I find it somewhere, will post more. Best I remember, the box was on the first page somewhere near where asks if you were applying ED, RD and if you had applied to Emory or Oxford in the past. I just remember having a discussion about it being unusual that they would ask about Oxford application on the Emory application.

mm..... i'm pretty sure you have to call them to transfer your app to oxford if you don't get in emory.

interesting zixxa...I'm a student at Emory (freshman), and I just don't remember that option last year, so I was just curious...

thanks, though!

i know that my friend wants to go to the oxford campus for a change of scenery since he lives walking distance from the atlanta campus. he said he would rather go to the main campus but its too close to home

My d has applied to Emory, and did not choose the Oxford option. It was a box to check on the supplement. (She used the Common Applicaton).

My brother went to Oxford and transferred to another school. His complaints were that it was dead on the weekends, the social scene was "out of whack," and it felt like a glorified high school. Most LACs have at least 1000 students and self-sustained social environments whereby students stay on campus and socialize on the weekends. Oxford is nothing like a LAC in this way, rather its like a small high school. Oxford, according to him, is severely lacking in any kind of collegiate spirit.

I actually interned in Atlanta a few years ago and lived with many Oxford students during the summer on Emory's Claremont campus. I would say that a great majority of the students I hung out with didn't like the Oxford experience. I personally think there are many better options, such as LACs, for students looking for a tight-knit experience.

My own thoughts are that Oxford should be avoided.

If you think about it, you'd have more friends at Oxford because it's a smaller school so everyone knows everyone else. Then, when you enter Emory, you'll already be close to a bigger group of people. I don't know, it makes sense in my head. It does kind of suck that everyone there is under 21 though, so I'm not sure about the social life.

No Im from California just like gopumas.

The only way to apply to Oxford is through an email sent by Emory. You basically just check a box as was said above and then your app is sent. Its not on the Emory application.

We toured Emory and Oxford last weekend. Both daughters LOVED Emory but each felt Oxford too small, too rural, to consider. Best case, if you have your heart set on Emory but can't quite get in, Oxford might be a good leg up. If not, don't see either of my children seriously considering it.
