I'm a history major looking to transfer to UCB. I'm trying to complete the IGETC and I have to take a math class. I know this math class is going to hurt my GPA. I was wondering if it would hurt my chances for admission to UCB if I took this math class as a Pass/Fail option. I asked a couple of different counselors and got a couple of different answers. I have been trying to contact Berkeley but they are impossible to reach. Can someone help me out please.

is it a remedial math class?

No this is my first college level math class. I'm trying to complete Area 2 of the IGETC for Mathematical Conecepts and Quantative Reasoning.

Not sure then. I took a remedial math class for pass no pass and it didn't affect my application.

You may consider taking this math class during an intercession if possible; so you can solely focus upon doing well in it.

Best. Cardinal. :)

take the class after you apply (spring), so it won't hurt your chance of admission

Haha sure he can take it after he applies so they wont see it... but I mean it's not like their not going to see the grade. Don try to hide something... I mean all you need to take is basic statistics for IGETC to cover the math req.. and if you can't do well in that class, how do you expect to do well at berkeley? The math classes you can choose from just to satisfy IGETC are nothing hard at all. These aren't calculus courses. You don't have to be good at math to do well in basic stats.

a person who doesn't know ANY math can do very well in berk

math doesn't mean much though i'm a math major myself

I don't think you can take a P/No Pass class for an IGETC requirement, unless it is remedial.

I'm a History major and very poor in math. I have taken two math classes prior to this upcoming one and I got a "C" in both of them. Luckily those classes don't transfer, I have an "A" in every other class I have taken in community college. I think I will do fine at Berkeley as a history major. Anyways, i'm really confused now. My counselors don't really know for sure and I can not get in contact with anyone at Berkeley.

i'm almost positive you have to take a letter grade for the courses you're taking to satisfy your IGETC.

I guess i'm going to have to walk into the counseling office and tell the counselors to do their job and find out for sure.
