Is peer pressure a prevalent issue at Syracuse University?

SU is one of my top picks. However, the one thing that is deterring me from joining is SU’s rep for #1 party school in the nation. So now, I’d like to ask current students and graduates from SU what the party scene is like. I’m not a big party-goer myself, but I am extroverted. My greatest fear is being peer pressured into doing things and being in situations I would be uncomfortable with. Is it necessary to party to maintain a close group of friends? And is it difficult to have a social life when it doesn’t revolve around one night stands and 24/7 drinking?

@ac_rome02 we visited last month and we had a similar concern. My D isn’t a big partier. But while we were there, a random freshman happened to sit with us in the cafeteria. I point blank asked her about the party rep. She said she doesn’t drink, she has a group of friends who doesn’t drink, and they find plenty of things to do, on and off campus.

I think it’s a big enough school that you will be able to find a group of like minded students and the school sponsors plenty of activities that don’t revolve around drinking. It’s my D’s first pick so far.

I have a friend whose son is there and he is a friendly, sociable guy but not a drinker. He and his friends started a Thursday night get-together for like-minded kids. I think a kid can find their peers at SU.
