Is Phi Eta Sigma legit?

My son was invited to join, but I’ve read mixed reviews as to the real value of this organization. They are not listed in ACHS that I can tell. They have a join fee and also a fee to attend some kind of banquet.

Ditto here. Curious too.

Just my opinion: I’d say legit, but of no value. Even Phi Beta Kappa has lost much of its sheen, although I’d still recommending joining if invited. Here’s a recent article: http://www.dailyillini.com/opinion/columns/article_adb255f6-7653-11e2-99b5-001a4bcf6878.html

Of course, engineers and business majors won’t qualify for PBK because courses taken to pursue a “trade” like engineering won’t qualify. For engineering, a student could consider joining Tau Beta Pi, if qualified (top 1/8 as junior, top 1/5 as senior). http://tbp.tamu.edu/membership For business, there’s Beta Gamma Sigma, although the TAMU chapter seems to be inactive and my MBA BGS membership has been of absolutely no value.
