Right now I am attending a Top 100 public high school. I am likely to be in the top 5 or 10 percent there. I got into Andover as a junior… wondering if going to Andover would decrease or increase my chances of getting to HYPMS? I know that there is a huge chunk - 33% I believe - of Andover students that go to Ivy League/Stanford/MIT. However, I’ve also read that a lot of the students already had legacies at those schools, and that to get in on merit (which would be me - I have no legacy) is actually quite difficult, because the top students at Andover are so competitive. I really want to go to Andover, and experience all of the amazing activities and courses, but I don’t want it to set my back college admissions wise. Thanks so much, any help is REALLY REALLY appreciated!!!
College is not a reason you should use to not go to Andover.
From what I see in your post, you clearly want to go… So go. College will figure itself out as long as you keep doing what you’re doing.
A large bulk of the kids at Andover have some sort of hook. Legacy, athletics, development, etc. Colleges know the rigor of a place like Andover. While your GPA will take a hit it sounds like you should go for the sake of learning.
It’s the last week of Aug and you’re wondering about this just now?
In a previous thread, you said you were waitlisted. Did you get accepted afterwards?
Andover sent out notification that they would not be going to their waitlist at all this year. They were fully enrolled with a 84% acceptance response to initial offers of enrollment.
