nope it isn’t. did you apply anywhere else?

oh yes. got into SDSU/CSULB/SFSU/CalPoly pomona for finance.

Just got in Santa Cruz for bus. management econ.

Was wondering how my grades would fare for UCSD for the major…

I doubt Philosophy is impacted at a single college, university, or educational tenement from sea to shining sea.

And your GPA seems high enough. Last year, UCLA, of all places, admitted Phil majors at an average of 3.6 grade points.

Sit-back-‘n’-relax.

No it’s not impacted whatsoever. Someone got in last year with a 3.25 and the admission officer said that that’s a slam dunk since Phil isn’t impacted at UCSD.

Even though a major isn’t impacted at UCSD, it feels weird because they supposedly don’t admit by major? so my confidence has been down a bit since we’re most likely competing with other people from all other majors instead of just our own…

I agree…I thought it was a little sketchy. Maybe they get an entire pile of social science majors, then bio science majors, etc and set a cutoff for nonimpacted. Last year I think it was a 3.23? Anyone below that got rejected. Some above that still got rejected. I wish they’d admit by major. It’ll be easier lol

heh yeah. I think we’ll both get in. our GPAs are pretty competitive for UCSD imo

Totally. I have a 3.34. I forgot what you have but I think it’s perfect for a non impacted major. No worries.

Well, they admit to the school and not major because you are able to change your major fairly easily between non-impacted ones. What they do look for is how well you PREPARED for your intended major. Otherwise, say I wanted to get into the UCSD chem program and I applied as a Phil major with no pre-reqs done. If they didn’t check how you prepared for the major and you had a good GPA you would be accepted, change you major, and be in the chem program with people who were actually prepared and worked their butts of to get there. But, they do check to see if you prepared yourself for your major and probably don’t admit that many people with a bunch of missing pre-reqs. If someone has a bunch of pre-reqs and major classes completed they probably aren’t going to switch once they start at that UC. Chem isn’t any harder to get into than Phil, if you have the pre-reqs done. That goes with any non-impacted major for that matter.

Thank you guys for the responses, much appreciated.

One more odd question:

On assist.org, it only lists 1 pre-req for my major, which isn’t even offered at my CCC or any near me.

However, I took 2 IGETC transferable Phil classes (101,102) and got A’s in both.

What is the deal with that? Since they technically aren’t listed as pre-reqs… and I can’t even take the pre-req they listed…?

^ yeah. as a phil major, my college did offer the prereq for SD, but none for Cal. as long as your college doesn’t offer the class, and if there are absolutely no colleges nearby who offer it, there’s no reason to worry. they can’t hold it against you. but–you’ll have to complete the prereqs once you’re there, likely before you can declare the major.
