I've heard one CCer recommend it - any second opinions?

It's legit. Look at ratemyprofessor.com also.

Keep in mind that students who are unhappy are more likely to post vs. satisfied students...

^ good point. so it is based on student-posted grades or is it based on grade lists provided by universities?

The grades are obtained from the universities.
The reviews and ratings are created by the students.

I like ratemyprofessor better. It's not only dissatisfied students though, I posted comments for two professors that I really enjoyed and I know that others have done the same.

My main complaint with ratemyprofessor is that the site doesn't have all the professors. Also, pickaprof has more student reviews, because it's more popular.

True. I usually check on both, there isn't much reason not to.

Are we looking at the same site? pickaprof is missing quite a few schools including both my undergrad and grad schools.

edit: do more schools show up on the list if you register for the site?

I noticed some schools were missing, like Johns Hopkins...maybe thats because certain schools wouldn't provide pickaprof with the grades.

Also, I'm pretty sure what you see is what you get in regards to whether or not more schools show up on the list if you register. If yours doesn't show up, that sucks.

If anyone wants to know if your schools on the list, just list the school name and I'll get back to you...

I second ken285. pickaprof only knows three colleges in PA!

It might be very possible though that pickaprof is a lot more popular among students than ratemyprofessor at a few colleges.

Only three colleges in PA, that's rather odd. For me, pickaprof has the three colleges I've attended, and also, the college I'm transferring to. Tarrant County College (community college) and UT Arlington,UT Dallas and UT Austin

Rateyourprof is great. Don't go by the scores, though - read the individual comments. Some things that bother another student you may like, and vice versa. (e.g really easy/hard, lots of discussion, not a lot of work, talks about own opinions most of the time... that sort of stuff)
