Myrmidon73, It's nice to hear from someone who knows the game :D

he doesnt play everyday, neither do i. but he bids big and gets our. theyre not like tourneys, because those take forever. of course its not like a constant salaray but thats the average of how much i make when i play. ofcourse i lose when i play tourneys sometimes but i usually play smaller games that only takes about an hour or sitins or whatever because who really has the time to sit there for 5 hours with 5 minute breaks every hour. anyways those online poker places basically rig the entire game by increasing the chances of getting rare hands and i know when to play because of that. stats and human factors also may come into play but the latter is less important online. and my friend plays tourneys where the payout is like 1000 dollars or small groups where the payout is like 200. imagine that but 4 games at once. of course he doesnt come in first place every time but top 3 usually has a good payout.

yeah, sit-n-go. Hahahaha rig the game? Quit while you are ahead.

SnGs are the most annoyingly boring way to play poker. Especially once you figure out how to beat it, it's like you're playing a 60/40 edge over and over after waiting for like 45-60 minutes.

Poker sites don't rig the game. I have enough hand histories stored to tell you that. Lethargytm, you sound so incredibly unknowning of online poker. Most real pros will tell you that cash (and limit) games are where the real grinding money is at; not in SnGs. You can make a living playing SnGs, but the variance is really a killer.

4-tabling isn't that huge of a deal, and I'm sure your friend has had streaks of not cashing. Heck, even in the "easy" $<20 SnGs, I would have streaks of having hands like AK lose to AQ, overpairs getting busted, losing races,...etc at not cash for 8+ SnGS.

I'm not saying that it's unreasonable to make $2k/day at SnGs, but I'm a little skeptical. I highly doubt he can make money that constantly playing only 4 SnGs at a time. Most of the SnG pros I know play anywhere from 8-24 tables at once, and still have issues with variance. Your friend should play more games at lower stakes, because, trust me, variance will catch up to him. At his stakes, even a 15-20% ROI is quite impressive, so your friend must be playing at least $10k worth of SnGs every day to maintain that win rate.

No, I play sng and small tables, he plays medium tables and tourneys. Honestly the word rigging wasnt the best word to decribe it but there is no way theres a fullhouse every 3 hands.or a straight flush every 8.

mainly because there isnt? Do you guys play on some 3rd party site? Because from the sites I've played at, nothing like that has happened.

Since I've been tracking my hand histories, I'm actually below my expected value of straight flushes in hold'em (and stud, which has essentially the same probabilities). I'm a little bit above on full houses, but I can pretty much chalk up both of these differences to variance, as they are quite minimal.

You aren't seeing more good starting hands per # of hands you see, you are however seeing more per hour because you see more hands. Poker is a game of percentages and odds, and it all equals out in the end.

Lethargy, seriously. Come on now. Just stop.

they raise the probabilities because the companies cash in on the percentage of your winnings. better cards mean more people bet which in return gives them a higher profit. its called corporate scheming.

If anyone can show that and bring in a class-action lawsuit, the site gets killed. That's why nobody plays on UB or Absolute anymore. Seriously, just stick with Stars and Full Tilt.

Also, they rake your buy-in in the SnG. The hands you play have no consequence to the rake.

the company i play with dont rake in buy in with sng, only 5% of your total winnings of all games. and considering that the company is offshore in some caribbean country, that would be hard.

You must be playing on some ghetto site. All the sites are offshore, but raking winnings = bad. But even though, their rake remains constant because of the tournament payout.

Seriously, go to a bigger, more reputable company

Why wouldn't you play on pokerstars? Tons of fish, tons of money and very big games and tourneys. lethargy, why are you playing on a site like that.. and if I might ask, what is it?

Well I play a little online poker and I gotta say Leth seems to be off. Hey Leth, you sure your buddy didn't just set up his own fake poker site and rakes in the cash from you and your other friends losses? I play on Stars, not so much anymore since I got in a funk, but I have to say Burgler and Myr seem to know what they are talking about. For the illegal thing, I never deposited, just made a tiny bit from free tourneys with payouts and built it up from there. I'd never deposit since I built up a decent base and don't have the cash for such an investment.

Anyway, there are plenty of games to play in college, its popular enough. Some people take it too seriously though, I'd try not to play with those guys since they can overreact when you win with luck(that was my experience when I first started out and after teaching my friends in my hometown and playing against them, I was sorely annoyed, but not like some people having hissy fits or even just being ******s).

because they had a 30% extra money, and they looked pretty legit. I made money and had fun so whatever. It actually got good reviews so thats why I joined.
