Is poker something I shouldn't put on my resume?

rc,

and poker is legal to play in casinos, whereas drug dealing is never legal

I think you're kind of missing the point.

Underage gambling is illegal, no matter how profitable it is, or how it will be legal for you when you're older...you don't want to brag to colleges about doing illegal things for money.

skierdude, seriously don't put this stuff on college. I am also love playing poker online because it costs as much in gas to drive to Las Vegas, I love this game since I was 10, but there are something best not to put it on paper because you don't really know how people will react to it. Despite the fact that I spent a lot of time at the local UC to research on a lot of math subjects to help me increase my odd, such as Von Newman on theory of gambling(or something like that), group dynamic(Nash), game theory, probability,etc.. However, I like the suggestion that you might be able to weave some of these topics in and write a good/interesting essay, especially if your interest is in math, if not then it's not a good idea. Or you can say it helps you to do some kind of research and you go online to test the theory.
I'm just throwing out some ideas, don't know if they are any good, just don't blame us if things don't work out right. This EC is very risky indeed.

Ok, well thanks to everyone who gave me their input. My conclusion is that I probably should just leave this one out, and not even try for the stretching/BS of the whole math thing. I mean, I have learned some nice math principles in my learning, and it's been kind of cool, just I think that'd be kind of hard to pull off "I love probability."

Well thanks a lot guys

well if you work in a pharmacy you might be able to put a positive spin on 'drug dealing'

its even legal! :-P

As a fellow poker player, both online and in local tournaments, I appreciate Hold'em for its psychological, statistical, and mathematical intricacies. It's still illegal, though.

Poker doesn't belong on your college resume. Plain and simple. Perhaps you could write about life lessons you've learned through poker (I know I've picked up on a few...) in one of your essays, but I'd keep it limited to that, and I would talk very little about any financial gains made from your hobby.

it doesnt matter if it's legal or not

gambling for money = a bad thing.
^especially for a teenager.
colleges don't want that.
