I'm going to be a freshman at UW Tacoma this year starting in the Fall quarter.

I would like to decide to do pre-med so I could go to medical school and major in Computer Science.

I'm interested in becoming a doctor and a software developer. How does it work altogether??

Also, what can you do with a bachelor's in Computer Science??

And if you do a lot of internships at companies that relate to your major, does that mean you'll guarantee that you'll get accepted to a computer science job right after you graduate??

Also, is it better to do internships at one company or lots of companies??

Like, for example, if I want to work for Google - should I only do internships there??? Or should I also do internships somewhere else??

What about pre-med?? Would it be the same thing??

I'd appreciate your help and answers, thank you!!

You want to be a doctor AND a software developer? You realize that being a doctor is a full time occupation right? There isn’t likely to be a lot of time on the side to develop software.

Guarantee? No. Having internships will certainly look good on a resume, but you still have to compete with the thousands of other applicants that have had internships at equivalent companies.

Do you realize how hard it is to get an internship with Google? It is VERY, VERY competitive. Every computer science major in the country wants those internships. What happens if you don’t get accepted for the internships there? Do you think that means you shouldn’t try to get an internship anywhere else?

Obviously, if you want to work for a company like Google, you should definitely apply for those internships. But, you should also apply for several other ones. Having internship experience will look good on a resume, no matter where the internship was. If you want to work at Google, the ideal situation would be to do multiple internships at Google…but it’s not really a matter of “choosing” to do them there…it’s a matter of getting accepted into the program.

I’ve read through some of your other threads, and you seem rather confused about a lot of things. Slow down a little bit. You’ve got 4 years of undergrad left to get some of this stuff figured out. You say you want to do internships at Google and do software development, and in the following sentence you say you want to go to medschool. That’s a decision that you need to make fairly soon. The choice in major doesn’t really matter as far as medschool acceptance goes, but keep in mind that there are a LOT of courses that need to be taken to be qualified. Physics, biology, chemistry, and calculus, to name a few. A computer science major is a great major, but it’s a pretty hefty major to mix in with a pre-med track.
