I'm sort of confused on one aspect of the premier meal plan. I get that it gives you a set number of meals for the quarter rather than a week, but this whole multiple swipes per meal period is confusing me. Okay, so yes, I can bring a parent along or something if the occasion arises, but say there is a meal period from. . .12 to 5. If I go to the cafeteria at 12, eat something, then leave and go to class, then come back at 3 and i want to eat again, will i be using two swipes? Or is premier like one swipe per meal period? And which plan do most people get anyways? Thanks in advance!

Yes, you will be using two swipes. You can only do this with the Premier meal plan.
Alternatively, you may deposit money into your BruinCard and use its debit function to pay for another meal (this is called Easy Pay).

Or is premier like one swipe per meal period?
Premier allows you to use swipes like silly-nilly whenever you want. To eat once at 12PM, then return at 3PM would use two swipes.

If you did not have the premier meal plan, then once you have swiped at 12PM, then you will not be able to use another swipe until the next meal period (5 P.M.). This is what is meant by one swipe per meal period for the non-premier meal plan holders.

And which plan do most people get anyways?
I do think that 14Premier (14P) is the most popular, but I know people with 11 regular, 14 regular, 19 regular, and 19 premier.

Is Premier Meal Plan worth it?
Maybe. If you go to a quick-service Cafe (BruinCafe, Cafe 1919, Rendezvous), you’ll be able to get multiple items during the same meal period. Premier is nice to have, but you’ll be fine without it.

For a better understanding of the meal periods, you can look at the hours of operation here (http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.789d0eb6c76e7ef0d66b02ddf848344a/?vgnextoid=5268345c6f842110VgnVCM100000dcd76180RCRD).

With the premier plan: if you get a sandwich and a smoothie in one meal period, will that count as two swipes? (A swipe per item?)

Yes, one meal swipe will go to the sandwich, and another to the smoothie.
But know that for one swipe going towards the sandwich, you also get a cup to fill up at the soda fountain and a small side (a fruit or a bag of chips).
