I have heard that Asians at Princeton are not allowed to participate in Asian American organizations, and that ethnic identity is looked down upon in Princeton.

Is this true? Can anyone verify? Most of my Asian American friends who go to Princeton are very miserable. Quite different from friends at UCLA, Stanford, and Berkeley.

Being asian obviously is not looked down upon by the admissions people at Princeton. The percentage of asians at princeton is around 15%, compared with something like 2-3% of the US population. There might be more asians per spot that princeton wants to give them, and that might make admission more difficult for them. Princeton is probably just aiming for a diverse class and a class that is somewhat representative of the US population...would a 20-30% asian class do that? I guess not.

I think you heard wrong. I've never heard any report that Princeton is anything but welcoming to qualified applicants, whatever their ethnic origin. Maybe "most of" your Asian-American friends should speak for themselves, if you have friends at Princeton.

Yeah, seriously. I have an Asian friend at Princeton now, and she loves it there. That Princeton frowns upon "ethnic identity" is just ridiculous, imo.

i, too, have two asian compadres who are spending their studies in P-ton. they seem to be very happy--one of them had planned to graduate early but decided to stay to join an eating club. of course, asians might feel more at home at berkely b/c asians make up a high percentage of the student body

Yeah, but race isnt always the sole factor in determining compatibility, with friends or in relationships. I don't think I would feel very welcome at Berkeley because the Korean kids up here are so much different. i went down to Cali this year and it was difficult fitting in, even clothes and attitudes were dissimilar. To be honest, I feel more comfortable around white people.

How can asians not be allowed to participate in asian american organizations?

I have felt no asian hate during my time here.>>>>

I get the general feeling that Princeton asians are forced to disassociate themselves from their ethnic identity through campus pressure. While there is nothing wrong with an Asian person choosing to hang out with strictly whites and identifying politically and socially with whites, I do find something wrong with a school that quietly pushes you in a certain direction in terms of your ethnic identity. As if identity crisis is not a big enough problem in America.

Yes California1600 is definitely a troll... he posts asking if everybody at Harvard is like George Bush, says he's a SAT tutor and the changes in the new SAT are because of Asians scoring high, ...

My friend bought Princeton Review's book on the New SAT, and it mentions that the main reason for changing the current format of the sat is because the college board had problems with univ of california. the UCs are probably the biggest clients of ETS and few years back they lost faith in SATs and decided to stop accepting SAT scores. So, college board had talks with them and changed the format and content and convinced the UCs that the new SAT will be a more faithful indicator of success at college.
