Is prom worth the time?

I mean, what do you even do there? It seems like you just kind of stand around...

Most of the kids in my grade are stupid, and I don't need to go to prom to hang out with friends.

Stop thinking of the negative things and just go. Noone talks to everybody at prom, but you go there to have a good time with your friends and show them how much you can’t dance on the dance floor. I went to my senior prom 3 days ago, and it was awesome. Yes, you don’t need to go to hang out with your friends, but it’s a once in a lifetime thing. If you hate the idea of prom that much, though, then just don’t go.

I’m not going. I definitely don’t think it’s worth it and am very, very against the idea of prom itself.
The amount of money just to MAKE a prom at most high schools is like yearly family salaries and the amount of money kids spend in prepping for prom is ridiculous and absurd.
I am very, very anti-prom and if you’re looking for some type of formal dance, there will probably me many in the future.

No, there won’t be many in the future, not school dances where you can mingle with your classmates. Prom is expensive if you let it be. I wore a black suit, which is less than expensive than renting a tux, and many others wore suits, looking just as good as those with tuxes. We didn’t get a limo but drove, and the dinner and tickets weren’t too pricey. We didn’t need to have the most expensive night to have fun.

Zinthafan, you say there are many more formal dances in the future, but I disagree. College isn’t the same and when you’re an adult, what dances do you really go to unless it’s the club?

It’s what you put into it. I mean if you’re gonna look at it all negatively, then yeah don’t go.

If you don’t want to go, don’t go.

Originally… I hated prom, but I decided to be more open about it.

I was planning on going if I was accepted to my first choice college.
Sadly, I wasn’t.

I really don’t feel the need to “celebrate” the fact that I got into a mediocre college. Yes, prom may be the time to celebrate your experiences and reward yourself for the hard work, but I honestly feel that I didn’t try as hard as I could have.

I have no reason to be proud.

And that is why I shall not be attending my senior prom.

sadface.jpg

Ah well.

^Gosh, why do you have to sound so mature?

And a lot of seniors at my school did spend a lot of money on prom. They did, however, all claim it was very much worth it just because they could be with their friends.

lol why are you putting this question on CC. just go

JoJoBear…You don’t go to prom to celebrate going to good colleges xP You go as one of the last hurrahs you’re going to have before you have to leave your high school friends.

Besides, you’re just being masochistic; you don’t have to be going to a good college to “deserve” having a good time :)

I think you all will regret not going when your children are in high school and ask you why you didn’t go to yours.
Prom is supposed to be your last hoo-rah! Go and enjoy yourself

What if you’re a junior?

For juniors its not really too big a deal, but its still nice to go. A lot of my friends hated the idea of prom for juniors (including me) and went anyways last year and had a great time. In the end its just enjoying things with your friends, and if you’re a senior its one final good time with everyone before you head off to college.

Kinda ironic and slightly off-topic, but something about prom did pop up on my facebook recently, which is a little voting thing online to get students to vote for their hs’s for a chance to win $2,000 for their proms. I don’t mean to post outside links and I’ll remove it if mods request so to be done, but champsplash (dot) com has this thing going on so if any of you want to help out your high school give it a try.

I don’t know about a waste of time, but a waste of money hell yeahh
