I have been accepted at Purdue and want to do engineering. Is Purdue really that prestigious? If yes, then what is the explanation for it being 60th on the USNews rankings? Granted it is 8th on the list for engineering but 60th nationally? Kind of a big difference isn't it?

for engineering, sure. MAYBE not all of their courses offered are rigorous and well taught. Maybe they are strong on some fields or something. MAYBE

same with UIUC, top 3 or 4 in engineering, number 1 in accouting, but only 40thish among national universities.

Purdue has great name recognition and most people have a lot of respect for people who graduate from there with degrees in business or engineering.

yes true...but i wonder how many good co-ops and industry interactions purdue students get whilst in West Lafayette?

Ask someone from IU how prestigious Purdue is. Engineering would be OK. Otherwise, Purdue is not known as an academic powerhouse, especially outside the midwest. It is a fine university though.

My brother is a sophomore at Purdue, and due to Purdue's networking in the engineering field, my brother got an internship in the summer of his freshman year.
