Is RA selection competitive?

I think many students want free housing and all the privileges of being a residential advisor, but many students are also lazy and don't like the stress associated with the job. So, at most universities, is RA selection competitive?

It really depends on the university. They won’t hire you if your intentions are purely to get cheap or free housing.

I know at my school you have to have connections as well as do well in the interview, and it can get mildly competitive.

It’s pretty competitive at my school. Most people get hired because they have at least a little leadership experience.

I was wondering the samething. I think you have to have some connections. The first school i went to, my RA said that it is picked by a group run by students. If you enter the club you increase your chances. At my new school i have no idea. What i did notice looking at the yearbook is that most of them are active on the spiritual side of the campus-I go to a christian College.

It is where I am. About 400 people apply and there are only 70 spots.
