<p>High schools don’t have ranks. A ranking of high schools by some magazine will not affect your admission.</p>
<p>Nonetheless, a well-known (or “highly ranked”) high school will probably be known for its rigor by colleges, which obviously helps in the process. And if you go to a “top” high school, you may not need to be as highly ranked either to be competitive, as your school will be known for producing many good students. Admission officers may also want to stay on good terms with guidance counselors at elite high schools, and will therefore be more likely to admit students from these schools.</p>
