my recommender who went to harvard for her phd strongly recommended reed cause that's where she went for undergrad studies. Reed has the highest per capital of students who get phds out of any college in the states.

"Reed has the highest per capital of students who get phds out of any college in the states."

Not quite; CalTech, Harvey Mudd and (depending on the years counted) Swarthmore have more.

There's a very good and down to earth Christian author named Donald Miller who wrote very good things about Reed College, saying that there are always intelligent discussions buzzing around Reed and that it was a great experience for him as he was auditing classes. It should be exciting to go there AdamM412.

Anyone worried that they're not weird enough for Reed? I've got the numbers for Reed, but didn't quite come off as quirky in the application (at least I don't think I did). More interested in the school for the fact that it's a think-farm. Anyway, I'll be jivin' until I hear the admission decision--and hopefully afterwards too...

if you have to try to come off being quirky, you shouldnt. you should be yourself and if the school is a fit for you, you will have all the personality for the admissions office. I honestly have not fit in through highschool or CC so far, I feel different in my thinking and I've been told I'm really wierd so it would be nice to meet some similar people but that probibly wont bleed much into my essay, at least on purpose.

and this school has been added to my definite apply list after all the research. now I need to see if BU is right for me and my list will be done.

how does reed compare to Oberlin? the two seem to be talked about fairly regularly together.

They're both great schools and are both very liberal. As far as which is better, I would say Reed should be among the top 20 LACs for sure, even though it's ranking is supressed due to it refusing to fill out the USNews info. Either way, you'll be at an excellent school, but I'd pick Reed.
