From what I'm hearing, Reed is a lot like Uchicago in terms of academic strenuousness, which is I guess a good thing. The only thing preventing me from going there (if I get in) is the idea that its overrun with hippies who have idealogical oppositions to daily showers and non-secondhand clothes, and have never picked up a "Ball" of any sorts in there life. The stereotypical Reedie to me sounds a lot like the group at my high school which thinks they're better than everyone else because they've done shrooms, don't match their clothes, and one time read a Jack Kerouac novel. Please tell me that some people at Reed are actually smart, interesting people with hygiene and athleticism, who read On The Road because its a good book, not because their dealer on Haight Street said it 'blew his mind, man'.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people having different lifestyles, I would just hate to be surrounded by these kind of Pseudo-intellectuals.

If you get in, I suggest that you visit.

they do play rugby
( but I don't suggest you visit during finals week- showers are verboten during that time)
My daughter slept in the library for three nights in a row. I didn't ask if she changed her clothes.

showers are prohibited....?

showers are prohibited....?
uh, no. other things are of more importance at that time.

I read somewhere that 60% of the people are in intramurals or something, but I could have gotten them mixed up with some other school. I do know that PE is a graduation requirement. That said, they are not an NCAA school, so if you live for March Madness you would probably want to pass.

I wouldn't worry about Reed being full of pseudo smarties. I've read plenty about it being full of genuinely curious intellectuals, but not one bit of criticism about it being a home of posers. I have read bout the drug use but from what I hear if it isn't your thing no one's going to make snide remarks about you not "expanding your mind." plus, habitual druggies don't stay long because the workload is so hard they can't compete.

I hate doing athletics but I'm a diehard Baseball fan so if I'm accepted there will be at least one person at Reed watching the world series.

sounds great, if we're both accepted we probably will end up watching it together, especially if Barry, Moises and the new relief can put together a world series team again.

I visited 2 weeks ago and the tour guide said they showed the Sox/Yankees World Series on a huge screen in the lecture hall (as well as the prez debates).
