is Repeating junior year matter?

ok so

before i came to my current HS

i attended very competitive Private HS.

Of course i got very poor grade in that Previous HS.

So i transferred to another HS.(MUCH EASIER to get good grade)

my current school principal suggested me to repeat Junior year to pull up my grade(?).

so i did, and my junior year is actually over now.

during my second junior year, my grade went up(C,Ds to B,A). Also i joined sports teams and become a captain in soccer team.

And right now im taking summer pre-cal course at U.N.C. (to prove that i can pass the college level course)

anyway do you guys think that repeating junior year Good or bad????

^

I guess your in a odd situation, you didn’t like flunk all your classes your first junior year right? I sometimes question this, you mention you have now B’s and A’s… previous from C’s and D’s at a very rigious private high school. For someone who has already went through junior year at a rigious private high school, and so repeat their junior year at a high school where it’s easier to make good grades… you would expect one to get all A’s even if they didn’t previous come from a rigious private high school their first junior year. So I think many universities may question.

Then again, I guess it really varies with intentions of repeating, etc… and each university may differently look at your situation. Basically with information given, if you were to explain to universities they may want more information. I still think you can get into a good university though.

Oh I see your taking college level classes at a university, may lift some weight off you and better your chances.

Were the courses your taking Ap, honors etc… level at both high schools?

unfortunatly i had no chance to take AP classes during my junior year. but im planning to take it this senior year…

^

Hmm… did you take honors? I think it will be a tough call, I still think you have a good chances attending a good university.

no honors either, i basically had really hard time during my first junior year …(i had to take care of my brother without my parant. b/c that i got really bad grades)

thats why i repeated and got better grade…

so taking AP courses during senior year does not help at all?

^

Oh wow, no honors or ap for either high school junior year? I must say, students who take honors and ap credits alone ( and have not repeated a year) are nervous about getting accepted into a university. I think your chances for many universities ( in this case) may be below average, but apply to many so you can increase your chances of acceptance. Look at universities ( mainly public universities) ranked by USNEWS, do you mind saying your ACT score, or SAT?

Oh yeah taking Ap courses anytime should help some.

my SAT and ACT scores are bad too :frowning:
especially my English section’s scores are horrible …
and Math section was like 700s…terrible … .
so do you think my ec won;t do anything better?? … (i got 4year straight in school Art awards…)

Can you release ACT score ( more informed about ACT, but may take SAT)?

Well lets see:

It’s almost as if you were given the chance ( all over) to get all A’s junior year, also noting that this school is relatively easier than the previous high school ( private) you came from. That places expectations that you should have excell with all A’s ( coming from a more rigious school, and just repeating junior year alone). I think it’s good that you have been active in school, and willing to take Ap’s next year… but many students who do not challenge themself in high school and have not repeated a school year are worried about college admission. I almost think you would have done better just continuing into senior year, and from there taking the extra year at a community college or what they call 13th year ( something like that, similar as being in high school… not that informed about it). Again I think you still have a chance to get into a good university ( like those ranked by USNEWS) but it’s likely your chances are below average.

Do you mind saying your overall GPA? This may help.

i haven;t got my final grade for my 2nd junior year… so is there anyway that i can contect you privatly so i can send my grades and SAT,ACT scores later> ?

Is there any function that i can send you the private messege on this website?

If you look at the right hand corner in the top, it should say 1 unread private message. I sended you a message, and you can use that message to reply with the ACt, SAT, and overall GPA.

Your story about taking care of your brother is good…but many of gone through the same situation and have ended with better results (more A’s, scores, EC’s, etc). I would apply to your state school but I’m not aware of you financial situation. This is gonna be tough to call…sorry.
