Is retaking an AP exam worth it?

Hi,

I’ve posted this a lot but I got a 1 on The ap comp sci exam. I know I can do better and I think it was just a bad day for me. If I self study for the exam again next year and take the exam would that be a good idea? I wouldn’t retake the class, I would only retake the exam. If I get the book and just study it I think I can get a 5. So would taking the exam again next year be worth it? What are the pros and cons?

By the way, I canceled the 1. So it won’t appear on any future score reports . It would only be the retake.

A 1 to a 5 is a big jump, but if your prospective college will give credit for it and you have the time, then go ahead.

The purpose of AP tests is for college credit. Are you super against taking an intro computer science in college? If not, retaking would probably just be wasting 90 dollars.

@wonderfulreads I’m not retaking it for the credit; I would retake it so colleges would see that I scored better… I’m looking at Ivy League colleges. I just don’t want them to look at me badly because of my ap scores

If you cancelled it they won’t see it.

Unless you are applying to a computer science program, it really isn’t worth it

AP scores carry little to no weight in the admissions process. If that’s you’re only reason for retaking, save your time and money.

I’d say no. I wouldn’t waste $90 on a test that wouldn’t really affect your chances of getting into a college. Since you cancelled your scores, you have nothing to worry about. Unless you plan on majoring in computer science (in which retaking could be beneficial), I think it would cause more harm than good. There’s a chance you could retake it and score poorly again…
