I took two AP tests this year: AP Human Geography and AP World History. I actually took the class for World History, and Human Geo was self-studied. So, I started a bit late on Human Geography, and I went in knowing absolutely nothing. I thought I got a 1 or 2, but I pulled a 3 somehow. Still not very good for schools I’m aiming at (Columbia, NYU, Oxford (would like to pursue History track)). However, I went in to World History having studied well, and I got a 5. I am thinking of re-taking Human Geo next year to get a 5. I figure if I study a bit, it should be manageable. What do you think? Is it worth the time and money? Thanks so much!
For Oxford you will need relevant APs with scores of 5, & Human Geo will only count as 1/2 an AP. World, US & Euro would be the obvious ones. Be sure to read the subject description of History at Oxford- it’s not a track- it’s 100% history, with a lot of requirements.
I don’t think that a re-sit of Human Geo would affect your admissions chances at those schools- but of course, I’m not an admissions person!
@collegemom3717 Thank you so much. I have actually visited Oxford (I’m catching a flight to England tomorrow to go back) and am quite familiar with the admissions process/requirements. I understand it’s 100% history, and I simply used the work “track” to be synonymous with “program.” Sorry for the confusion!
Just looked at your other threads, @smartspencer, which confirms my vote not to bother re-taking Human Geo. You have plenty of much stronger things to your credit, and getting 5s on the APs you are sitting this year already will be a big enough challenge.
