Is Retaking the SAT Worth It? PLEASE HELP.

I took the SAT in May and received a 2170 (750 CR, 720 M, 700 W). At first, I was very excited and thought this was a good score. However, upon further CC and common data set research I have determined that I want to retake it and get it higher. I am planning for the November 2nd test.

My question is, is a retake "worth it?" How would it look in the eyes of colleges? Do I even have the chance to improve? Do I need to retake?
I am willing to put in as much study time as necessary for this.

For the record, I am applying to Bowdoin, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth (5x legacy), Georgetown, Mount Holyoke, Stanford (mega reach, I know...), University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, Vassar, Wash U, Wellesley, and Williams. I am a white girl with a 3.7 GPA (7 AP and 10 honors classes, 93.5 UW) from Maine. My extracurriculars are fantastic, with several leadership roles, a club I founded, and sophisticated research experience as well as 700+ volunteer hours. I have read my LORs and know they are just glowing, my essays are top-notch, etc, etc, etc. I feel like every part of my application is as good as it could be except for the SAT.

Thanks so much for your help!

My opinion: Adcom is well aware that the SAT is statistical test, meaning that results will vary within a certain range range of scores from test to test. It knows that statistically it is possible to improve your score. Therefore proving it, I believe, is not necessary. 2170 is a fine score and will not by itself be the single reason of rejection. Btw, the college board likely has three years of historic test data on most students (NMQST, PSAT, SAT) Your aptitude as measured by the College Board has already been well defined.

Thank you so much for your help! I won’t retake and instead will use the time I would have spent studying on writing fabulous essays and keeping my grades good. Thanks again!!! :)

OP: A fabulous essay and ebullient rec’s will be the true difference maker. GL
