Is retaking then replacing a class truly worth it?

Hi all,

Last year I took a CHEM class (the hardest Gen. Chem. class at this university - HONORS CHEM 201) and did OK in it, but not great and I still feel like my grasp in chemistry is not super. The chemistry class had a giant curve and I was lucky to receive an above-average grade. My question is: is retaking a class, doing better in it, and replacing the grade truly worth all the trouble? I've seen multiple posts about this and it has sparked lots of debate.

So I'd like your opinion! In the end, my GPA will be affected by like .15 GPA points. But for me it's not about the GPA, more about the practical use of the class (I work in a toxicology laboratory) and my grasp of the subject.

End note - I'm leaning towards not retaking it, and if lucky I'll end up with a 3.88 GPA (from a Tier 3 Uni) if I get a 4.0 this semester (with Calc II, OChem I, Eng., and Upper Div. Psych.). I hope to apply to a few Ivies, some top 50s, some safeties (obviously).

Bump. Eager to hear answers still…

Could you audit the course or take it without getting credits? That way, you get to go over everything without it hurting (or helping) your GPA.

You could also try deepening your understanding on your own.
