I live in CT and was wondering if SDSU was respected in CA. I am a very good student, 1960 SAT, 16th rank in class, 4.46 GPA and was wondering if it would look bad if I decide to attend SDSU.

Yeah, SDSU is pretty good. It’s the 2nd best CSU (some will argue 1st against Cal Poly Slo). Some give SDSU kind of a hard time against UCSD, but really it’s pretty fair. I live in SD and a LOT of my teachers are SDSU alum and are respected/good teachers.

It’s a CSU, so compared to almost any UC it won’t look as good. However, it is a GREAT school. The fact that it is located in San Diego makes it a very desirable school, so it receives thousands of applications each year. Among to CSU system, it’s about as good as it gets. I’m going to attend SDSU next year, and whenever I tell anybody that is where I’m going, they are always impressed. So yes, it is a well respected school, even if it isn’t the best school in California.

SDSU is very close to UC’s in terms of academics. There are some departments at SDSU that are better than UC’s departments. There are also people getting rejected by sdsu who have got accepted into UC’s. So the distance between UC’s and SDSU isn’t and far as you think.

Look at the department you are going into and its ranks, not the overall school.

so deciding to go to sdsu over a UC’s isn’t necessarily a bad idea. There are lot of factors that go into that and not just the one is a CSU and the other is a UC.
