Is SAT above 2100 enough for MIT?

Mootmom, did I understand what you just said correctly - 15 kids from the same school were accepted to MIT in the past two years? What kind of school is it? Private, public, very large, etc? Just curious... and a little mind-boggled since I'm the only one from my public school to get in ever!

The only school I could think of is Stuyvesant High School in NY.

Anybody knows what percentage of the admitted students this year were #1's?

You understood correctly, kcastelle -- in fact I believe there were a few more than 15 acceptances (there were 13 last year alone) but I don't know most of the kids in the HS class of '06 (my son was '05), so I only know two students for sure who were accepted from this year's graduating class. There may have been others.

It is a small private HS in the Silicon Valley area in CA. Class of '05 was amazing: 13 acceptances out of 124 students in the class (yes, 10% of the class was accepted to MIT). I do not know how many of the 124 applied.

..................wow

Haha, we're considering this our best class ever with me going to MIT, another kid to Brown and a third to UCLA. I am thoroughly impressed.

They get them some fancy larnin' in California that we don't have in Ahia, kcastelle. ;)

gulps Apparently!

Durn ejumacated folk.

Mm, but dat ejumacashun aint gon git em nowheres so 'sokay.

uma dajeram sojoral higul!

O_O....that iz no engrish!

Hungarian, I believe.

Interesting that you're not asking if you should apply or not, but rather you should try for a higher score - I assume you mean by prepping and then retaking. Anyway, I would probably focus on your SAT 2s before you worry too much about those, because the scores are in the competitive range , albeit at the lower end.

Hey guys,

What do ya'll think of a 2000? 800 math/610 reading/590 writing (9 essay). I know the last two scores are pretty low (very low)... :( maybe low enough to be a 'deal-breaker' (from the fisrt round of the application process)?

Thanks!

mootmom, does the school name start with an H? also, i never thought of it as small :D

School name starts with H indeed. With less than 150 per class, it's relatively small compared to other local schools. (And the earlier classes, e.g. through Class of '05, were even smaller: 80 to 120-ish.)

Should I ask how you know of this school? Do we know each other? ;) PM is fine...

I'm so jealous... I don't think anyone from my school's ever gone to anything "more prestigious" than one of those huge state universities, and my class starts at 500 (though it ends somewhere near 300).

Excuse my intrusion but the school is Harker. Hahaha, I know it's none of my business but the school is well known around the Bay Area.

EDIT: I remember it well! Harker beat my school in the regional science bowl at SLAC. Hahaha.

i got a 2150 and got into mit but i daresay that i tried to make sure the other "3 legs of the table" were a lot stronger

Why is this thread in the MIT 2010 sub-forum? Isn't that what the general MIT forum is for?
