Is Sauder Worth It?

I got accepted into Sauder School of Business. My tuition is around 40,000 US dollars. I am an international student.

I also got accept to U of Washington (seattle) and U of I Urbana Champaign. Both are social work programs. UW is around 49,000 and UIUC is around 45,000.

With May 1 approaching, I’m trying to choose which school to go to but it’s so hard. I want to do economics/business/international relations and it seems like UBC is the best at it out of the three and cheapest?

So should I go to UBC? Is UBC Sauder worth it? UIUC better? UW better? Go to the cheapest?

Is Canada your target? Go for Sauder then.
If US is your target, go to UIUC then.

If you want to do economics/business/international relations, both UBC and UIUC have partnership programs with universities worldwide. One such program that Sauder is promoting this year is with a French university called Sciences Po (SP). SP is well known for international relations, but not for business. Combining business deom either UIUC or UBC with SP might be something to explore.

As the previous person noted, if your focus is Canada, UBC is a good choice. If USA is your focus, you may go with UIUC. Not sure if social work your passion? Keep in mind that you may spend close to $250K over 4 years in getting a degree in social work, and the payoff may be paltry. There are other alternative paths to getting a getting a degree in Social Work, such as enrolling in a Community College for two years and transferring to a university. Just a thought.
In either of the pursuits, $250 K is a considerable amount; hope your parents/guardians are comfortable in financing your education for 4 years.

40k? Are you sure?
Sauder’s tuition for international students, for 30 courses per year, for the first academic year should be around 27k canadian dollars.

Tuition+housing+other expenses is should be something around 40k USD…

My parents are willing to pay I guess…
I just need to compare from my three schools.

Sauder’s online resources/sites promote a very global approach and convince me that if I attend, I can “work” or “thrive” in Korea, US, anywhere. UIUC seems more “American” than global?

Is UIUC actually good at like econ/IR/business?

I also like how UBC is near Vancouver, one of the best cities in the world, but don’t like how UIUC is…kind of near nothing.

Also, UDUB has a better business school ranking than UIUC…at least for grad. And they’re both top 40 econ. UBC is top 30 econ in the WORLD.

I think you should see in which uni, YOU can get what YOU want.

International and national university rankings are mostly based on research and NOT based on campus life, study abroad opportunities, clubs etc. If you’ll see rankings’ methodologies and scores that these three school have gotten into than ranking system, you see there is not much difference between #30 and #40. Besides, these scores and rankings are changing each year…

Again, try to see what you will be, do and learn in each school. Find the best FIT.
Read each ones curriculum and if you really into finding a job right after graduation, go to each school’s career center website and see the stats. There are just stats, but they will help. (Don’t forget that these stats are mostly for US graduates, and international students have visa problems working in US.)
