Hey guys,

The college application process is coming up, and SBU has caught my eye. From what I've read, SBU has a respected engineering program, which would be great for me since I'll be aiming to major in electrical engineering. My grades and SAT scores don't meet the level that the CA flagship schools, most notably UCLA and Berkeley, are look for, so I'm looking elsewhere. SBU is ranked near some of the schools that I qualify for here in CA, and it would cost me around the same if I attended a mid to lower tier UC or CSU school. SBU would cost me around 27-28k per year, but hopefully with financial aid and scholarships, I can bump it down to around 22-23k per year, which is exactly how much it would cost to attend one of the UCs that I qualify for.

Now, living in NY, especially near NYC, has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. I absolutely adore the big city atmosphere. SBU is apparently only an hour or 2 away by train to the big city, so I'd be relatively close to NY. My question is, amidst this easy access to NYC, is this school worth paying 22-23k for to attend? No matter how close it is to NYC, education is absolutely my first priority, everything else comes second. I realize that no matter what college I go to, as long as I apply myself, I can get a job once I graduate, but would it truly be worth it moving across the country for SBU? Thanks for any advice guys. This school looks neat, and I'd be happy to attend if it IS worth it.
