As of now, I have already taken 2 science classes and am doing one right now (total 3), but science is one of my weaker academic aspects. I'm a junior right now so I've taken a science course every single year of high school so far but I don't know whether or not if I should take AP Bio my senior year. I'm not a complete failure at science but I know that I would struggle and it would be difficult to get an A. I know that some people will advise not to take it because I might be better off taking a different AP which I could do better in and I want to agree with them; however I heard many people suggest that I should take science all 4 years of high school. This particularly worries me since raising my GPA is my biggest priority for USC but at the same time, I don't want to give USC any preventable reason for not accepting me. I did score high on the SAT which I heard is good for USC, but my freshman GPA totally screwed me over so even though I have improved and am doing relatively well in school, my GPA is a concern for me. Is science really necessary all 4 years of high school or am I better off taking a different AP which I could possibly do better in? Thank you.

Depends on your major. If you’re not applying for a science related field, I think 3 years would be just fine (assuming you have the major sciences down, ie Bio, Physics, and Chemistry). However, make sure you do another worthwhile class instead (ie don’t just take a study hall, do another AP you could perform well in).

I’m going to apply to Marshall/Leventhal so 3 years should be alright for business?

Make sure you take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. After that if you do not hate science or have some motivation to take it, make sure it’s a lab science. Otherwise 3 years should be fine if it includes Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

It may not matter if you take AP Bio, especially if you don’t like it. It is difficult to get a B in. My smartest friends took AP Bio, and 1 with a 1530 SAT score on his first and only try, got his first B in AP Bio.

I’m a freshman in Marshall right now. 3 years of science is fine. I didn’t take a science class my senior year. You can easily just take another class to fill that spot in your schedule.
