Is self-studying for AP exams worth it?

I'd like to self-study for English Language junior year, because I love English, but the Pre-AP class is killing me this year. (I'm currently failing.) I'm also thinking about self-studying for English Lit, US Govt/Politics, Macro, and take Calculus AB but self-study for BC senior year.

What do colleges think of students who self-study for exams but don't take the class, even though it's offered?

If you're failing a class (and by failing, I mean D/F, not a B or something) that is a prep for an AP class, how do you expect to be able to study 3 APs concurrently? Just curious.

I don't know. That's a good question. I'm good at History and decent at Math, and I used to be good at English, but I guess that's not the case.

Should I just opt out of AP English completely? I plan on taking other AP's.

^Actually, scratch that last post. The only reason I'm failing Pre-AP English is because I'm lazy. If I tried, I could get a B. (And I have before.)
