is SFS more selective than the college?

So georgetown SFS has about a two percent higher acceptance rate (17 vs 15), but my impression is that the SFS may have more qualified applicants, and more hooked students, while georgetown uni may have more unqualified students just applying because they see it in the top 20. Is this a correct assumption to make?

I have good test scores, very slightly above average GPA for georgetown, good extracurriculars (but they are mostly art related, and my tiny high school
did not offer model
UN), and a great letter of recommendation from a foreign service officer. I am wondering, will it be safer to apply to georgetown college or the SFS? I would take the SFS over the college, but my main concern is getting in.

When considering which school to apply to, you should think about your career path and what major you are likely to be declaring instead of acceptance rates. The difference between them is so low that it’s not really worth worrying about. Georgetown as a whole is very competitive and has a low acceptance rate, but the applicants that shine through are the ones who demonstrate passion towards whatever it is they enjoy doing.

In your example, if you’re more interested in the SFS, then by all means apply. MUN isn’t a requirement; all they want to see is that your ECs reflect what you enjoy and who you are as a person. I know several people in the SFS majoring in Culture and Politics who have never done MUN or the activities more traditionally related to IR. You should apply to whichever school you can make a compelling argument for. Especially when writing the school-specific supplemental essays, you should reflect your interests.

Hey, just out of curiosity, how did you get a recc letter from an FSO? I’ve been in contact with many officers through email, but never known one well enough for a recc! That’s really cool.

he is a teacher who’s done most of my history classes, so I guess I was mainly just lucky.
