Is she being unrealistic about getting into Penn ED

A good friend of mine is planning on applying ED to Penn and basically staking her future on getting in. She has no real backups for RD as the safeties and matches our GC suggested, weren’t good enough. I just want to generally figure out her chances to try to give her a reality check.

SAT 1: in the 1900s. low 600’s for each section
SAT 2: Math I around 600, German around 720, Lit around 650
ACT: 1st try 26

Full IB program. Average grades. We grade 1-7. She gets mostly 5’s and 6’s, one 7 and one 4. Around a 6.0 w. around 5.8 uw
She doesn’t play any sports. One year of Speech and Debate. I think she is hedging her admission on the fact that she is international. We go to an international school in Germany. And the fact that she did a service project in Tanzania. Maybe a few other EC’s here and there.

She wants to study business. Is she being at all realistic? Does she have a chance at Penn?

Lol there is no chance that she can get into Wharton with those stats, especially as an international (the competition is more fierce than domestic)

That's what I thought. And everyone is building her up to think that she will: parents and friends. I just think she's setting herself up for disappointment. Thanks.

are you sure its not you

haha. completely sure. I'm planning on applying ED to Wake Forest.

She's being unrealistic...but how can you convince her so without her getting mad at you?

Focus your discussion on a back up plan.....so what apps does she have ready IF she gets deferred/denied in mid December at the holiday time? Focus on what is a fact.....she needs to develop a plan B.
