Is singapore polytechnic's diploma GPA equivalent to US H.S GPA?

Hi,

I have no clue on this question: Is singapore polytechnic's diploma GPA equivalent to US H.S GPA?

I need to know it so i can gauge where i stand in the US system. Currently my stats are as below and intend to major in liberal arts/philosophy.

<academic results="">
Diploma in computer engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a GPA: 2.66/4.</academic>

SAT I:
11/2009, SAT Test
480 Reading
520 Math
410 Writing

SAT II:
430 Literature
570 Mathematics Level 2
630 Physics

GCE O levels (2003)
Retake English C6 (2004)
Combined Humanities B3
Geography A2
Mathematics B3
Additional Mathematics B3
Physics B4
Chemistry C5
Chinese B4

It depends on your rank

the problem complicates because my singapore diploma cert does not show ranks…

Then it is really hard to tell because there is nothing to compare your GPA to. Generally in the US that wouldn’t be a competitive GPA. However I can’t say for sure because in Singapore the schools may be tougher/deflate grades.

Do you know what the average GPA was in your school?

Your SAT scores are very low so if there is no rank colleges will most likely assume that GPA is as low as it seems for a US student unless they know your school and that is a competitive GPA (which based on your SAT score it doesn’t seem like it would be but I can’t really judge).

lacrimosa89,

You need to start by reading everything (and I do indeed mean everything) at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) Then you should make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to you. The counselors in the Singapore office will be able to tell you exactly how your GPA converts to the US scale, and which US colleges/universities have admitted candidates like you in recent years. Here is the contact information for them:

A poly diploma is not equivalent to US HS diploma. Your poly diploma allows you to earn several college credits upon entering the university, but this depends on your grades and also the university’s policy. However, since you intend to move away from Computer Science to liberal arts, I personally think that you would not be able to make use of that advantage yourself as your poly degree will only cover some of the intro Computer Science and Math classes, not philosophy.
