Some of the reviews I have read online speak negatively about Rice's Social Sciences department...
I have been accepted & want to major in Economics/Math Econ, but I'm not sure how well the school would treat me in terms of academia, internship and post-graduation job placement.

Can a current student shed light on this please?
Thank you

I’m in the same position, would appreciate if someone who knows about this could comment.

My son is a senior majoring in political science and history. His experiences at Rice have been awesome. He had two summer placements in D.C. through the Baker Institute and Rice Leadership. He’s loved many of his professors. The ones he loved the most bring real world experience to class (check out Douglas Brinkley). As far as post grad, he’s hoping to spend a year working in D.C. before heading to law school in 2014. That is still all up in the air.

Not a current student – but my son was a '12 poli sci/soci major who’s been working in DC since graduation. Despite the highly competitive job scene there, he’s secured two good jobs with solid political consulting firms. He’s also remained close to four profs who helped him make post-college connections. Ditto on Baker and Rice Leadership and also opportunities to lead clubs.
