Is sociology an impacted major at UCI, UCSB, or UCSC?

Is sociology an impacted major at these colleges? If so, what GPA is required to get into these programs? I have a 4.1 GPA

are you a frosh or transfer applicant?

Can I ask what “impacted major” means?

Applying for freshman

A major that is harder to get into than a regular major. In this case, people with better GPAS will have a better chance of getting into things like Computer Science.

@mikemac: OP is a Freshman applicant with a UC GPA of 4.1 and SAT score of 1020 as of last posting in November.

@Kynediv: Did you retake the SAT and were you able to raise your scores especially the Math score?

Sociology is not an impacted major but at UCSB it is in the College of Letters and Sciences which does not admit by major, so you have to be just as competitive as all the other applicants applying to the College of L&S.

UCI admits into the University first and then into the major, so it is possible to be admitted into UCI but not into your choice major. Average UC GPA last year for Sociology admits was a 3.94 and average SAT was 1218.

UCSC does not admit by major and you do not have to declare a major until end of Sophomore year. UCSC would be your best chance for an acceptance out of these three UC’s.

Hey there! Yes I improved my SAT by 100 points. 1120: 530 math
Thank you
