Is software engineer and software developer different?
I believe anyone can be a software developer. Many students develop aps, for example. But being an engineer requires a specific degree with a specific course of study.
Most people and employers use the two terms interchangeably.
A few schools may have a software engineering major that differs from the computer science major in having more emphasis on large project methodology rather than computer science topics.
You’ll find that in software, the word “engineer” is tossed around willy-nilly when it generally just means “programmer.”
In other words: they’re the same.
This isn’t standardized. I have seen a few people in the field get into heated debates over the terminology, but most only care about whether or not you have a degree, and if so at what level. And in software even THAT doesn’t always matter.
Software engineer, software developer, programmer - all the same.
In my experience, software companies that don’t also do hardware tend to call them software developers or programmers. Companies that do both hardware and software tend to call them software engineers, probably for parity with the hardware engineers.
